The representatives of Libya Al-Ahly Tripoli and Al-Ittihad in the African Confederation Cup won their two matches in the group stage of the tournament.
Al-Ahly managed to defeat its Tunisian guest, Sfaxien, with two goals to one, in the match that brought them together at Benina Stadium in Benghazi, in the second round of Group A.
Al-Ahly’s goals were scored by Sfaxien’s Shadi Hammami by mistake in the sixth minute, and Saleh Al-Taher in the 52nd minute, while Sfaxien’s only goal was scored by Ayman Harzi in the 86th minute from a penalty kick.
Al-Ahly had a good performance that won the approval of the critics and the public, and they would have won by more goals, had it not been for wasting many chances which were presented to the players.
With this victory, Al-Ahly raised their points to three points in second place, with a goal difference from CS Sfaxien, who are third with the same number of points, while Pyramids tops the group with 6 points, and Zambian Zanaco is bottom of the group without any points.
In turn, the Al-Ittihad team defeated its South African guest, Orlando Pirates, by three goals to two, on the same pitch at Benina Stadium in Benghazi.
The goals of Al-Ittihad were scored by Sanad Al-Werfalli, Moaz Issa and Omar Al-Khouja in the 14th, 28th and 53rd minutes, while Orlando’s goals were scored by Pandel Chando in the 26th minute and the first minute of time added on.
Al-Ittihad won their first three points in the current edition, topping their group, while Orlando’s points stopped at three points.
In the next round, Al-Ahly will meet the Zambian team, Zanaco, next Sunday, while Al-Ittihad will play its next match in the third round against Algeria’s JS Saoura, next Sunday as well.
