The head of the Electoral Commission, Imad al-Sayeh, said on Sunday that the issue of postponing the elections is subject to a large number of variables that may be political, technical or legal, most of which are directly related to the holding of the elections.
Al-Sayeh added, in a statement to Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, that Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbaiba presented as a candidate a document stating that he had stopped working in accordance with the condition of Article 12, but the validity of what was stated in this document was left for appeal to the Libyan judiciary, noting that the commission did not receive the application of any candidate the does not complies with the requirements of law.
Al-Sayeh pointed out that the sit-in that took place in front of the headquarters of the Commission has the sole aim of obstructing its work, and that what happened in the sit-in was not spontaneous, but was motivated by an opposition movement to implement the will of the Libyan people.
In a related context, Al Sayeh said that the violations that were monitored are very limited and do not represent a percentage that can be invoked in deciding the fate of the entire electoral process, noting that accusations of fraud come from parties that work in various ways to obstruct the holding of these elections.
Regarding his visit to the eastern region, Al-Sayeh said that he met with the second deputy of the House of Representatives and the head of the follow-up committee for the electoral process, and they discussed the development of the electoral process.
It is worth noting that the High National Elections Commission confirmed, in a statement on Saturday, that it is working to communicate with the committee formed by the House of Representatives regarding the electoral process, and we will adopt some judicial procedures by communicating with the Supreme Judicial Council and the committee formed by representatives before announcing the final lists of candidates.
