The European Commission said that it has adopted a new program worth approximately € 11 million to improve medical services in Libya and to support access to better health care in cooperation with the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI).
The program focuses on improving maternal and neonatal health services and provides training for nurses and canteens. The commission added that the program will seek to improve mental health and prevent non-communicable diseases, according to a statement published on Wednesday by the EU mission in Libya.
According to the statement, the EU is monitoring a bunch of projects worth 120 million euros for Libya, including 37 projects for civil society, health, governance, youth, education, migration, protection and support of the political process, security, and mediation efforts.
The Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy, Johannes Hahn, said that the new program shows the EU’s commitment to ease the suffering of the Libyans.
In July, the European Commission announced an increase of 10 million euros in “emergency” financial aid to Libya.
