Unemployed threatens to close oil fields

A group of unemployed youth in Marada area said on Sunday, they will close oil fields in the region unless their demands to improve services in their city are met.

The group said in a statement, reported by Reuters, they had decided to close all oilfields in Marada Basin so that all their problems could be dealt with “urgently,” according to the agency.

The statement complained of the absence of government, lack of health care and other services, in addition to Marada town’s lack of road linking it to other communities, according to Reuters.

Gunmen have detonated the pipeline near Marada twice since December.
