On Wednesday Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that Russia is ready to discuss the easing of the arms embargo imposed on Libya during a meeting with the Foreign Minister for the Government of National Accord, Mohammad Sayala.
However, the head of the Russian contact group on the Libyan settlement, Lev Dengov, called for caution in lifting the arms embargo on Libya and waiting for the implementation of the Skhirat agreement in order to know which side should receive the weapons and under the auspices of who will this happen.
Dengov pointed out that the time is not appropriate to talk about lifting the embargo on the supply of arms to Libya, noting that there should not be reckless steps undertaken regarding the issue of arms embargo, according to news agency Sputnik.
During his visit to the United States the President of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, called for a partial lifting of the arms embargo so that his forces could secure the border and fight terrorism.
It is noteworthy that the UN Security Council had issued resolution No. 1970 in March 2011 to prevent the sale or supply of arms to Libya.
