The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that its delegation visited the capital, Tripoli, and discussed with Foreign Minister Najla Al-Manqoush the situation in Libya before the current December 24 elections.
The meeting, which brought together the two parties – according to the ministry’s statement – dealt with Russian-Libyan cooperation in several fields, including studying the process of resuming the activities of diplomatic and consular missions of Russia in Tripoli and Benghazi, respectively.
For her part, Al-Manqoush said that she discussed with the Russian side the files of the withdrawal of mercenaries from Libya and the resumption of the work of the Russian embassy in Tripoli and the consulate in Benghazi.
At the conclusion of the statement, the two sides also supported the efforts of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee on the withdrawal of mercenaries.
It is worth noting that the Chargé d’Affairs of the Russian Embassy in Libya “Jamashid Poltaev” said on September 16 that his country’s embassy could resume its work in Tripoli next year, according to the Russian Sputnik agency.
