As soon as he returns to Chairmanship… Aqila Saleh calls for changing the government, and the commission demands 6 to 8 months to hold elections.

It seemed more clear than before that the parliament, or at least its presidency, intends to change the national unity government and prepare a new road map for the next phase, following the failure to hold the elections last December.

After the council heard a briefing from the head of the commission and the head of the civil status department, the council suspended its session for tomorrow to listen to the conclusions of the roadmap committee that it had formed

change of government

Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh said that the national unity government has expired, and it must be re-formed, with an emphasis on the functions of the Attorney General to investigate the money spent from the start of its work, especially in the field of development and emergency.

During the session, Saleh gave instructions to develop a road map in a specific time period for the electoral process with the Supreme Judicial Council, the High Elections Commission and the Ministry of Interior, and to refer all forged documents to the Attorney General for investigation.

Amending the electoral law and drafting a new constitution

Saleh added that the commission called on the council to take measures to remove force majeure and complete the electoral process, and that it must submit a proposal for the amendments it deemed necessary to carry out its work.

Saleh called for the formation of a committee of 30 people among them intellectuals and specialists in constitutional law representing the three regions to draft a consensual constitution, provided that the period does not exceed one month from carrying out its duties without affecting the course of the electoral process.

From 6 to 8 months

For his part, the head of the Electoral Commission, Imad al-Sayeh, said during the session, that they need 6 or 8 months to complete the electoral process according to a correct base, proposing the issuance of a law on electoral appeals by the House of Representatives.

Al-Sayeh added that the rulings issued by the judicial appeals committees were not consistent with the provisions of Law No. 1 of 2020 regarding the conditions for candidacy, and that the total judicial appeals against the decisions of the Commission amounted to 154, of which 139 appeals were judged.

There is no fraud

While the head of the Civil Status Authority, Mohammed Bitamar, denied the authenticity of the information that indicates major frauds in the national numbers for the benefit of foreigners, stressing that what has been proven is simple individual cases.

During the session, Bitamar added that the intelligence service did not refer any letters that indicated that a large number of national numbers were forged, and that the heads of families’ grant had major errors, and its distribution was irregular and caused confusion in the civil status database.

The government’s fate is decided

In a statement to Arraed before the start of the session, a member of the House of Representatives, Abdul Moneim Al-Urfi, considered that the government is finished and its fate is settled, and that the parliament will decide on it today or tomorrow.

Al-Urfi added that they will listen in the council to the report of the commission, and they hope that the head of the intelligence service will be present to read the joint report with them.
