The former US envoy to Libya, Jonathan Winer, said that the situation that Stephanie Williams inherited in Libya is difficult and chaotic, with hard work and a limited period ahead of her.
Winer described, in an interview with the American “Al-Hurra” channel, the high numbers that applied for the elections in Libya, adding that some candidates, especially those who do not have consensus from all parties, should not be allowed to contest them.
Winer explained that the current US envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, was unable to direct efforts in Libya in one direction, while the UN Adviser to Libya, Stephanie Williams, was very successful in her previous work, and after the departure of the UN envoy, Ian Kubis, Secretary-General of the United Nations brought her back to re-enhance the electoral process
Winer suggested that the elections would be held at the beginning of next year, noting that the US administration would support the “UN Adviser in Libya, Stephanie Williams.”
It is worth noting that the former US envoy to Libya worked from August 2019 to May 2021.
