US imposes sanctions on Libyan citizen accused of abusing migrants.

On Tuesday, the United States announced freezing the assets and criminalizing any transactions with the so-called Osama Al-Koni Ibrahim, who was described as “the director of Al-Nasr prison in Al-Zawiya.”

Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken said, according to the British newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, that Al-Koni had committed “horrific abuses” against African migrants, including murder and sexual violence.

“Today’s action enhances accountability and exposes abuse, exploitation and violence against vulnerable migrants, who cross Libya in pursuit of a better life,” Blinken added, calling on the unity government to take action against al-Koni.

This action comes after similar measures by the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee, which called on all countries to ban al-Koni’s transit through it, and to freeze any funds belonging to him in their territories, according to what was reported by AFP.
