The African Union calls for a complete and effective ceasefire.

The African Union’s High-level Committee on Libya condemned on Friday, the continued fighting south of Tripoli, calling for the need to accelerate a full and effective ceasefire accompanied by a monitoring mechanism in which the African Union is participating.

In an official statement, the committee renewed its commitment to a Libyan political dialogue, and to speeding up a comprehensive dialogue that brings together all Libyan parties to stop the conflict and search for a solution taking into consideration the supreme interests of the Libyan people.

It is worth noting that the President of the Presidential Council, Fayez Asarraj, confirmed, on the sidelines of the committee’s meeting on Thursday, that the GNA is moving forward in defending civilians in the capital, Tripoli, if Hifter does not comply and stop violating the truce.

Asarraj: Continuing Hifter’s violation of the truce may make us reconsider participation in any dialogue.
