During a meeting with President of the Presidential Council Faiz Al-Sarraj in the Belgian capital Brussels, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo renewed his country’s commitment to supporting Al-Wefaq Government, of the economic reform program and joint cooperation to combat terrorism.
Al-Serraj discussed with Pompeo the current political situation in Libya, welcoming the international efforts aimed at making the democratic process a success and supporting stability. He warned against the need to stop the negative interventions from some countries that benefit the obstructors to prolong the crisis.
From his side, “Pompeo” confirmed his country’s full support for the plan of the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salama and his efforts, including holding the National Forum in January, the completion of the constitutional entitlement, and make it to the elections by the spring of next year.
Pompeo pointed out that there are technical committees that will be formed between the two countries to arrange joint meetings in the field of oil and energy, and the study of possible projects to support infrastructure and reconstruction.
The President of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, on Tuesday, met in Brussels the Secretary-General of the NATO “Jens Stoltenberg”, who confirmed the Nato’s support for the efforts of the government Al-Wefaq in building the institutions of the military and security, and his willingness to contribute to it.
