Libya Man-made River Project spokesperson, Tawfiq Al-Shwehdi said on Monday that an armed group attacked the water wells field of Al-Sareer system Sirte-Benghazi.
Al-Shwehdi said in a statement to ArraedLG, the attackers had taken over a number of the fields’ cars and supplies at the site without causing human casualties.
He called on all parties to intensify their efforts, and to address such attacks, in order to maintain the continued flow of water to all regions and cities.
The wells of Al-Hasawna system Jufra have been subject to looting and destruction, reaching 58 wells, resulting in the waste of more than a quarter of a million cubic meters of water per day.
