The National Oil Corporation (NOC) chairman, Mustafa Sanalla said the systematic smuggling of fuel is costing the state’s economy losses of more than 750 million dollars annually.
On Wednesday, NOC chairman presented to representatives of the international oil sector in Switzerland an initiative to combat Libyan fuel smuggling, including the use of fuel tracking systems to assist Libyan and international law enforcement agencies and to encourage the international community to impose sanctions on smugglers and seizure of their assets, the expansion of Sophia operation to include the fight against organized fuel smuggling.
The head of investigations department in the Office of the Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sor issued in February a warrant for the arrest of 114 persons accused of smuggling fuel.
