Swiss authorities have announced the arrival of 40 refugees of the “most vulnerable” category who were stationed in Niger after being held in shelters for illegal migrants in Libya.
In a statement to SwissInfo, Swiss Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga said on Friday that her country would welcome 80 refugees from Libya as part of a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) plan.
The UNHCR reported the deportation of 1,300 refugees from Libya, 312 of which were given asylum in Italy, and a small number to Romania.
