UNSMIL documents 16 casualties in March

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) documented 16 civilian casualties, 5 deaths and 11 injuries, in March, as a result of armed clashes across Libya.

In its monthly human rights report on civilian casualties, the Mission reported on its official website Sunday that March saw a noticeable decrease in the number of civilian casualties compared to February and January.

In its report, UNSMIL attributed the civilian casualties to shelling, gunfire and the explosion of war remnants.

The Mission added that it documented four other casualties due to acts that could constitute violations of international humanitarian law and in violation of international human rights law in Al-Zawiya, Benghazi and Sabha, according to the report.

The number of documented civilian casualties does not include those who were the result of indirect hostilities, according to the mission’s report.
