Libyan oil tanker “Badr”, detained in Bulgaria, released

The head of the Ministry of Communications media office, Seraj Al-Hamal said on Thursday, the Bulgarian Attorney General intervened to release oil tanker “Badr” detained and held in Burgas port.

Al-Hamal attributed the reason for the intervention of the Bulgarian Attorney-General to the communication of the executive management of the National Shipping Company with the Bulgarian diplomatic channels, pointing out that their efforts prompted the Attorney General to interfere and expedite the release.

He added that the ruling of the Supreme Court of Bulgaria to release carrier “Badr” is final and is not subject to appeal.

Al-Hamal said, the maritime authorities in Bulgaria at the port of Burgas, released the tanker immediately after the verdict, noting that the National Shipping Company intends to raise cases for compensations for the period of time the carrier was held.

The oil tanker “Badr” was detained in November 2017, while on a commercial trip to the port of Burgas in Bulgaria.
