German embassy returns to work from Tripoli this year

The ambassador of Germany to Libya, Christian Buck, said on Thursday that his country’s embassy had begun the procedures of returning to work from Tripoli this year.

The announcement came during a meeting between the head of the Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Faiz Al-Sarraj, with Buck to discuss developments in the political and security situation in Libya and the bilateral relations between the two countries, according to the official page of the GNA’s media office.

Buck stressed Germany’s desire to develop relations of cooperation between the two countries, pointing out the desire of members from the German parliament to visit Libya.

The ambassador expressed Germany’s readiness to provide the necessary support for the success of the electoral process to be held this year, in accordance with the Action Plan presented by the UN special envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame.

The Italian embassy is the only European embassy operating from Libya to date.
