The foreign minister of Nigeria Geoffrey Onyeama confirmed, during his meeting with the head of the Presidential Council (PC) Faiz Al-Saraj, on Wednesday in Tripoli, the start of repatriating Nigerian migrants.
The PC media office said, on its official page, that Al-Saraj agreed with the Nigerian foreign minister to coordinate directly with the African Union (AU) to deal with smuggling networks and dismantle them in accordance with the decisions of the African-European summit on illegal immigration in Libya.
Al-Saraj welcomed the proposal to organize an economic forum for businessmen and economic experts in the two countries to enhance economic cooperation between them. He expressed the willingness of the government to help return Nigerians to their country, according to the PC media office.
Nigeria has received 6,672 Nigerian migrants who have returned voluntarily from Libya since the beginning of last year, according to the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
