The Federal Bloc has welcomed the holding of presidential or legislative elections in Libya if there are “guarantees of integrity, transparency and a safe environment for voters.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday from Benghazi, the bloc called their supporters to accelerate registration in the voter register.
The bloc stressed that current reconciliation efforts will not achieve its objectives unless it is based on the “Libyan consensus of 1951”. They also welcomed the holding of the National Conference, announced by the UN envoy, if equitable representation of the regions is achieved.
Previously, polling station boards in Benghazi were removed and vandalized by protesters following the announcement of the Electoral Commission to start the registration of voters in preparation for the elections to be held next year.
