Italy offers 875,000 euros to support elections and dialogue in Libya

The Italian Foreign Ministry announced in that it will contribute 875 thousand euros to support the UN sponsored election and dialogue in Libya.

On Thursday, Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano said that the initiative was “a strong testimony” to Italy’s commitment to support the plan of action of the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, stressing his confidence in the reconciliation process.

According to statement, 600 thousand will be allocated to support the Libyan dialogue under the oversight of the United Nations, in addition to 275 thousand euros for the National High Electoral Commission to support the electoral project in Libya.

The head of the United Nations mission to Libya, Ghassan Salame, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy in the Forum of the Mediterranean dialogues, which was held in Rome in early December.
