US official have stated US forces have captured Mostafa Imam, a gunman who has played a key role in the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi on September 11, 2012.
The operation was carried out with the approval of US President Donald Trump and in coordination with the Government of National Accord.
Trump also stressed the importance of US joint support to Libya in order to ensure that ISIS and other terrorist groups do not utilize Libya as a “safe haven” to carry out attacks against the citizens of the United States and Libya. He explained that Libya’s long-term stability and security is linked to its ability to form a unified government and army; noting that they support the UN-sponsored reconciliation.
