Qatar sent a private jet, Emiri Air Force C-17, carrying 12 tons of medical supplies and medicine on Friday to Misrata to aid Libyan hospitals.

The aircraft, which had the Qatar Search and Rescue Team on board, arrived in Misrata International Airport on Friday evening and was received by a high-level Libyan delegation.
The private jet was sent by the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani to be distributed in Libya to those in need.

Libya’s ongoing political conflict has resulted in the breakdown of the healthcare system with 60 per cent of hospitals closed and many operating on a reduced schedule due to a lack of resources and experienced staff.
Injured Libyan troops battling against ISIS in the region between Misrata and Sirte have been unable to receive adequate medical treatment for their injuries in the hospital in Misrata.

This has resulted in many soldiers having to be transported to neighbouring countries, such as Italy and Tunisia to receive proper care.

Last week, the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) called on European countries to help provide medical aid to soldiers who have been injured in battle against ISIS.

“We would like to see more of our friends and allies in Europe offering help,” said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeq.

Last month, France sent a large shipment of medicine to the Benghazi medical Centre as an expression of support to the GNA. The shipment of medical supplies was intended to meet the needs of hospitals in the areas around Benghazi and Tripoli for several months.
