Al-Sarraj: We Need a Constitution First Before the Elections

The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj said that we need a constitution first, including the electoral law, without which elections can not be held.

In an interview with the newspaper “Corriere Della Sera”, Al-Serraj stated that the constitution drafting body has been in operation for two years and that the draft is ready and requires only the approval of the House of Representatives and a referendum.

In a related context, Al-Sarraj added that the next station will be the National Conference, which we hope will be held in January, to start the elections in June 2019.

The President of the Presidential Council said last September that the Council will resort to alternatives to enable the holding of elections in which the people choose their representatives and governors, and end the current stage of all its political and legislative institutions.
