The former United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Williams, believed that the administration of US President “Joe Biden” is sincere in its intention to help Libya, by curbing foreign interference and pushing for elections.
“Williams” – told the British Middle East Monitor website – Saturday, that the renewed American interest in Libya goes beyond just confronting the Russian presence, and it is part of a “comprehensive policy” towards Libya, considering that the Biden administration has adopted a “strong stance” on Libya during the past few months. pointing out that this stance focuses mainly on pushing towards the elections, as planned.
The former envoy clarified that the United States now appears to have a new agenda in the entire Middle East and North Africa region, and that “oil-rich” Libya, with its strategic location, is part of it, as she said.
“Williams” reiterated her support for the Libyan authorities’ repeated calls for foreign forces to leave Libya as soon as possible, noting that the presence of foreign forces in Libya is an insult to the “dignity” of Libyans, and that their departure is an essential issue for holding fair and secure elections.
In a related context, “Williams” confirmed that the phone call that occurred between former President “Donald Trump” and Khalifa Haftar was interpreted as a green light for him, and not a red one, for the attack on Tripoli.
