The representative of Libya to the United Nations, Taher al-Sunni, said that the Security Council, through the sanctions committee, rejected Belgium’s request to dispose of the frozen Libyan funds.
Al-Sunni explained in a tweet on his personal account, “Twitter” – Friday, that the Security Council recognized that there is no legal basis for disposing of Libyan funds, and this decision is a warning to any country trying to tamper with the assets of the Libyans – according to Al Sunni.
The Belgian government has submitted a request to the UN Security Council to lift the freeze on part of the assets of the Libyan Investment Authority in Belgium, and press reports confirmed several attempts by Belgium to dispose of the frozen Libyan funds.
