The UN Support Mission in Libya announced yesterday the list of candidates for prime minister in the new executive authority, which included 21 names, most notably Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha, Vice President of the Presidential Council Ahmed Maiteiq, and former Minister of Education Othman Abduljalil.
The list also included a number of names, including Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport Hisham Abo Shkewat, Mayor of Zliten Moftah Hammadi, Amal Jarai, Osama Al-Said, Iman Kisher, Jamal Abo Grain, Al-Haramain Mohamed Al-Haramain, Khaled Algwail, Dhaw Abo Dhawiya, Atef Al-Hassiya, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, and Abdulrahim Al-Muntaser, Abdulrazzaq Abdulqader, Fathallah Mohamed, Fadeil Al-Amin, Mohamed Al-Ansari, Mohamed Al-Muntaser, and Mohamed Al-Kikhia.
Activity and revival
Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha, the most prominent candidate for this position, he had assumed the position of Minister of Interior in 2017, and his tenure witnessed a revival and activity of a number of departments and divisions of the ministry, and many agreements were concluded, for the purpose of training and development with France, Turkey, Qatar and Malta.
During the aggression on Tripoli, the role of the Ministry of Interior was prominent in protecting and securing the cities under the Government of National Accord, and Bashagha also worked to integrate and rehabilitate the fighting revolutionaries in his ministry in line with what was stipulated in the ceasefire agreement on the 23rd of last October.
An agreement with Haftar
With regard to the Vice President of the Presidential Council, Ahmed Maiteiq, recent months have witnessed his attempt to conclude a deal with Khalifa Haftar, beginning with the reopening of oil installations, passing through bearing of the expenses of the parallel government under Haftar’s control, which will lead to his appointment as Prime Minister in power-sharing arrangement without referring to the rest of the components of the political scene.
Education crisis
On the other hand, the name of the former Minister of Education, Othman Abduljalil, appeared. Following the teachers’ strike in the capital, Tripoli, and other cities; Others demanded his dismissal, and they also demanded an increase in their salaries and they also requested health insurance, the strike caused obstruction of the studies, which prompted him to announce his resignation from his post on October 31, Under the pretext of his protest against Presidential Council Chairman Fayez Al-Sarraj’s decision to separate the higher education sector from public education.
