The British “Guardian” newspaper reported Friday that there are efforts by the United Nations to send observers to Libya, to observe the ceasefire signed last October.
The newspaper indicated – in a report – that the United Nations wants to make more diplomatic action for the efforts made, to persuade the conflicting parties to form a government of national unity, and to find a mechanism to elect a new prime minister.
The newspaper quoted a message from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, “António Guterres” to the member states, in which he called on the regional blocs to appoint observers to oversee the ceasefire and arms embargo imposed by the United Nations and violated by the UAE.
Meanwhile, United Nations officials said that Libya is in a race against time to achieve tangible progress towards forming a government of national unity and avoiding the possible collapse of the three-month ceasefire – according to the newspaper –
It is worth noting that the “5 + 5” Joint Military Committee signed last October a ceasefire throughout the country, after talks supervised by the United Nations.
