UNHCR: Libyan Coast Guard saved more than 12 thousand immigrants since the beginning of 2018

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said on Monday that the Libyan Coast Guard has rescued more than 12,000 illegal immigrants near its coast since the beginning of this year.

The Libyan coastguard recovered about 100 bodies of illegal immigrants who had died trying to migrate to Europe from Libya since early this year, the UNHCR said in a statement.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grande announced last June, that the Libyan Coast Guard rescued 80% of the refugees and migrants within the Libyan coast.
