HCS welcomes French initiative; says political agreement is the legitimate framework

The High Council of State (HCS) welcomed the invitation from Paris on Sunday, stressing that the delegation that will represent the HCS will base on the only framework and legal and political ruler at this stage, which is the political agreement in the discussion of any initiative.

In a statement the Council added, elections would not occur until the constitutional referendum was held, to move toward a period of lasting stability, stressing the civility of the state, the work of the military establishment and security under civilian authority.

The HCS also called for “an immediate cease-fire on the city of Derna, lifting the siege and the protection of civilians.”

France has presented an initiative to resolve the crisis in Libya, which included several points, most notably the organization of elections by the end of 2018, according to a timetable set by the United Nations.
