Russia not putting bets on one man, says Russian envoy to Libya

The head of the Russian contact group on the intra-Libyan settlement, Lev Dengov said, Russia stands at same distance from all parties of the conflict in Libya, and is “not putting bets on one man.”

Dengov said in an interview with the Telegraph on Sunday, the fate of the Libyan people,” who struggled for seven years to avoid dictatorship, cannot be based on one person.”

A certain country، without naming it، is arming at least three parties in Libya, and this is fueling the conflict in the country, Dengov said, noting that only the Libyans can end this conflict fueled by what he described as “third countries.”

The head of the Russian contact group added that one of Russia’s priorities in Libya is to restore as much as possible of the series of “huge” investments that were completely written off after 2011, adding that work is underway with the Government of National Accord (GNA) to reactivate the Russian investment in Libya.

Dengov stressed that the contracts between his country and Libya on the supply of arms are stalled due to the embargo imposed on Libya by the United Nations.

The head of the Russian contact group on the intra-Libyan settlement told Youm7 newspaper, in February, the commander of Operation Dignity forces, Khalifa Haftar requested the establishment of a Russian military base in eastern Libya.
