The head of the General Authority for Tourism, Khidr Malik asked on Tuesday the mayors of municipalities to cooperate with the Authority to preserve tourist sites within the scope of their borders.
Malik, in a speech addressed to the Minister of Local Government Badad Qansu, called on the municipalities to be warned of repeated attacks on the tourist areas and facilities designated by the Authority, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
The Libyan law prohibits the licensing of the establishment or operation and management of public tourist stores, construction in areas classified as tourist or the initiation thereof, or the license to exploit them in any way that affects or changes their arrangement without the permission of the General Authority for Tourism.
Some of the tourist attractions in Libya have been subjected to repeated attacks, including the deforestation, exploitation of beaches, and theft of artifacts.
