The European Union (EU) announced that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has assisted 15,000 migrants to return home from Libya through the voluntary repatriation program in cooperation with the African Union (AU).
The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, said in a statement on Friday that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has repatriated more than 1300 refugees from Libya.
Mogherini noted that the joint work between the EU and the AU continues, and on February 26, the European Union adopted a package of € 115 million in aid to support the joint working group.
The European Union is cooperating with its African counterpart to protect migrants and refugees in Libya and offer ways to evacuate them.
