Russian ambassador to Libya: We do not support the commander of Operation Dignity

On Friday, the Russian ambassador to Libya, Ivan Molotkov, said that Russia does not support the commander of Operation Dignity, Khalifa Haftar.

In an interview with Russian news agency “Sputnik”, Molotkov said that claims regarding Russian support for Haftar are incorrect; adding that they have repeatedly declared that they do not support any party in Libya at the expense of the other.

Molotkov expressed Moscow’s readiness to take the initiative to lift the arms embargo on Libya after the establishment of unified armed forces in the country. He added that Russia is currently not confident in their capability to prevent weapons supplied from getting into the hands of “terrorists”.

It is noteworthy that Haftar visited Moscow and met with Russian Defense Minister, Sergey Shoygu, in mid-August.
