On Sunday, in his meeting with the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salama, the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stated that Egypt supports the political process under the guidance of the United Nations.
Spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Hamad Abu Zaid said that the meeting discussed the latest developments in the Libyan arena and efforts to resolve the current crisis and the process of implementing the UN plan, including the preparation of the elections, stressing the importance of the support of all the regional and international parties to these efforts.
Abu Zaid added that the UN envoy briefed the Foreign Minister on the national dialogue held by Tunisia on the amendment of the Skhirat agreement, noting that “the final solution must be based on the will and consent of the Libyan people in all its various sectors.”
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed on more than one occasion their support of the UN mission in Libya, and that the solution to Libya’s crisis is political and not militarial.
