A General in Khalifa Haftar’s militia, known as the self proclaimed Libyan National Army (LNA), claimed that Al-Qaeda is behind the attack on the oil facilities.
In the televised interview on SkyNews Arabia General Ahmad Al-Samaray claims that Al-Qaeda allegedly worked in collaboration with brigades from Misrata in addition to the ministry of defence led by Minister Al-Mahdi Al-Barghathi.
The GNA released a press release early in the day on Wednesday denouncing it had any connection to the attack on the oil facilities.
Libyan media has been circulating a press release that was allegedly released by the supposed attackers, who are calling themselves Operation Room for the Liberation of Oil Terminals and Fields.
According to multiple sources including Rana Jawad, a BBC reporter, the statements made by the LNA General are false. She stated that the “statement attributed to Barghathi is fake.”
