Upon the signing of the ceasefire agreement last October between the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee, it was agreed to open the coastal road, clear mines, withdraw mercenaries, and evacuate Sirte from armed manifestations, and this has not happened to this day.
The dates for opening the road were repeated on more than one occasion, and the committee threatened to reveal the names of the spoilers, but this threat was not heard by the party obstructing the opening of the road, which is Haftar.
Haftar is obstructing
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Antonio Guterres,” hinted at those who obstruct the opening of the coastal road, when he said: The demining operation has been completed on the coastal road between Misurata and Sirte, without mentioning what is happening on the other side of the road.
Guterres revealed that the coastal road had not been opened. Due to political obstacles and tensions between Western forces and mercenaries loyal to Haftar in the vicinity of Abo Qrain.
There will be no stability in the country
Guterres explained that the failure to reopen the coastal road between Sirte and Misurata, and the failure to start the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries, fighters and foreign forces, entrench the division of Libya.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations affirmed that unless the perpetrators and violators of human rights are held accountable, there will be no stability in the country, stressing that the continued use of thousands of mercenaries and foreign fighters, and their presence and activities represents a threat to Libya and the region.
