The US ambassador to Libya, “Richard Norland,” said that the “Wagner” mercenaries participated in the attack launched by the rebels inside Chad, and that they accompanied the convoy of attackers from the Front for Change and Accord group in northern Chad.
Norland added, in statements to the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper on Friday, that the Chadian “FACT” rebels were fighting alongside Haftar, and had received training from the Wagner mercenaries in Libya.
In a related context, the US ambassador said that there are no indications of Wagner’s intention to leave Libya, indicating that “the presence of Wagner and the advanced weapons that they bring could lead to the possibility of a strategic competition on the southern side of NATO.” “This is not something the United States wants.”
Norland added that Russia wants to have legitimacy in Libya. Through commercial contracts and others, but this cannot happen when it has 2000 fighters who were attacking Tripoli and they can do the same tomorrow.
It is worth noting that Chadian President Idriss Debi was killed last Thursday, after armed confrontations with the rebels from the “FACT” movement in northern Chad.
