The UN envoy to Libya, “Jan Kubiš,” stressed the need for the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries from Libya, saying: The duration of their stay in Libya increases their number and reinforces the division in the country.
Kubiš added, according to the British newspaper, “The Times” – that his main goal is to ensure that the national unity government conducts elections as scheduled at the end of next December and that a divided parliament makes that possible, despite observers’ doubts about the holding of elections.
Kubiš added that there is hope for the end of this transitional period at last through elections, which will lead to the establishment of an undivided parliament and a government based on the will of the people. It would push foreign elements out of Libya.
It is worth noting that the UN envoy to Libya “Jan Kubiš” informed the members of the Security Council at the end of last March in his first briefing in front of them that “foreign fighters and mercenaries are still in Libya, and that they have repositioned themselves in the city of Sirte and its suburbs, stressing that Libyans of all sects are demanding them strongly to leave the country.
