On Thursday, Haftar’s militia released 8 prisoners from the city of Derna who were being held in Qurnada prison, south of Al-Bayda. After they were arrested nearly four years ago, according to press sources
According to local press sources, the released were Aisha Muhammad Attiyah, Najia Attia Al-Kawash, Sumaya Mouajer Sahad, Nusseibeh Maraji Sahad, Sanaa Abdel-Hadi Dehum, Aziza Ibrahim Al-Bahbah, Tasnim Faraj Omran, Hind Abdel Aziz Al-Naas.
No charges have been brought against these women throughout their years of imprisonment in the notorious Qurnada prison, and there is no official statistic.
The Libyan Crime Monitoring Organization detected in 2019 two deaths of detainees inside Qurnada prison,
As a result of neglect and poor medical care for prisoners.
The organization stated in a statement that Mohammed Moncef Miftah al-Ghwail, 53, died in prison as a result of suffering a lung disease and not being allowed to take medicines, in addition to the death of Ashraf Saleh al-Qadi, 56 years old, inside Qurnada prison, because he was not allowed to take medicines. As he suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, in addition to the spread of infectious diseases inside the prison.
In the same context, the city of Zawiya, on Wednesday, witnessed the release of 120 prisoners of Haftar’s militias from the “107th Brigade” who were arrested during the aggression on Tripoli in April 2019.
The release of the prisoners came with an initiative in coordination with the 5 + 5 Committee and sponsored by Al Zawiya Dialogue Committee
This is the fourth operation to exchange prisoners and detainees, the army forces and Haftar militias had exchanged 30 detainees on both sides on January 7 in Al Shwerif area under the supervision of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee in addition to the exchange of 6 detainees in the same place on the 28th of December 2020 in the area Al Shwerif and 33 others, including 15 belonging to the Libyan army.
