The US State Department announced that Washington had received a financial payment of $ 335 million from Sudan, as compensation for “the victims of the terrorist bombings that targeted the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.”
The State Department said – in a statement published by Al-Hurra TV – on Wednesday that the compensation also included the targeting of the USS Cole ship in 2000, and the killing of an employee of the US Agency for International Development, “John Granville” in 2008.
The ministry added that relations between the United States and Sudan can start a new chapter now, noting that Washington is looking forward to expanding bilateral relations between the two countries, and continuing to support “the transitional government with civilian leadership to achieve freedom, peace and justice for the Sudanese people.”
It is worth noting that former US President “Donald Trump” announced in October 2020 the removal of Sudan from the list of countries supporting terrorism, in exchange for the latter to pay compensation to the families of the victims of $ 335 million.
