Al-Araby Al-Jadeed revealed, on Monday, the UAE’s attempts to postpone the Egyptian-Turkish rapprochement, whose last initial steps have taken place, saying that the attempts are hindered by the UAE.
Al-Araby Al-Jadeed quoted Egyptian sources as saying that Abu Dhabi is not welcoming the Egyptian move at the present time and that timing is the main reason for its rejection by Mohammed bin Zayed, and that more Emirati pressure on Turkey will make it accept conditions related primarily to its support for the Muslim Brotherhood and the political Islam movement in The Arab region in general.
The site added that the UAE believes that it is necessary to reach the lowest level of the Turkish presence and completely banish Ankara from thinking about its presence in the Yemeni crisis and the Iraqi lands, stressing that Abu Dhabi has failed to disrupt the Saudi trend towards Turkey. Therefore, it is heavily betting on delaying the move by Egypt to force the Turkish President “Recep Tayyip Erdogan” to respond to the Emirati demands.
The same Egyptian sources disclosed that Abu Dhabi clearly requested that the Egyptian-Turkish rapprochement move be postponed, and more time to arrange it, so that the benefits from it would be more for both Egypt and the UAE, instead of just modifying the policies of the Egyptian media platforms that broadcast from Turkey.
It is worth noting that the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, announced on March 13 the start of diplomatic contacts between his country and Egypt in order to restore relations to normalcy, and that the two countries did not put forward any preconditions for that.
