Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano: Italian-Libyan cooperation increases containment of illegal immigrants

Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano stated that cooperation between Italy and Libya has led to an improved containment of illegal immigration flows.

In a statement to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on Tuesday, Alfano said that the decline in migration flows was also due to decreased number of migrants passing through the border between Libya and Niger.

Alfano  reiterated Italy’s support for the efforts of the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame; stressing the importance of reaching the widest possible consensus between the east and west of the country.
