An armed group in the South threatened to blow up the oil and gas pipelines for the ports of Melita and Zawiya; demanding the release of Al-Mabrouk Haneesh within 72 hours.
The armed group, which is affiliated with Colonel Ali Kanah, denied that Lieutenant Haneesh brought over mercenaries from the Justice and Equality Movement of Sudan.
A recorded video, circulated on social networking sites on Wednesday, showed gunmen standing on a crude oil pipeline in a field in the southern region condemning the arrest of Haneesh.
It was reported that scheduled maintenance has halted due to the armed group storming the control room of the project. An Arraed LG source said that the previously announced period of maintenance, which usually lasts for 9 days, will not begin until the armed group permits it.
Special Deterrence Forces (Rada) had announced last Sunday the arrest of Al-Mabrouk Haneesh, the leader of ‘Popular Front for the Liberation of Libya’ and the Sudanese Imam Mohammed Al-Faki. The forces released a post on their Facebook stating that Haneesh had brought mercenaries from Sudan’s Justice and Equality Movement in attempts to control the entrances to #Tripoli, in agreement with the “armed formations” present within the city.
Rada forces explained that Mohammed Al-Faki, who was arrested with Haneesh, a Sudanese citizen, is responsible for the death of 120 persons.
