The delegate of Libya to the United Nations, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, held the European Union responsible largely for their silence towards those obstructing the Libyan political agreement and who committed physical violations and war crimes that were committed.
Al-Sunni stressed – during the virtual meeting with delegates and representatives of the European Union to the United Nations – Tuesday, the position of the Government of National Accord seeking to make all the ongoing dialogues successful, away from all foreign interference and dictations, and that the European Union must give the way to the Libyans alone to come up with a peaceful solution to the crisis.
Al-Sunni said that Operation Irini does not provide serious monitoring of the flow of weapons and mercenaries to outlaw groups by land and by air, as it needs more comprehensive and direct coordination with the government, pointing out that for the ceasefire to succeed, international and effective guarantees and monitoring of any violations must be available, in case of sincere intentions to support All the Libyan consensuses to not repeat the past and to follow the policy of double standards, he said.
Al-Sunni stressed the importance of the role of the European Union in supporting these dialogues in all their tracks and uniting their efforts away from the negative and destructive competition, which was evident during the period of the aggression on Tripoli.
It is noteworthy that the representative of Libya in the Security Council, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, called on the council in mid November to hold accountable everyone who committed war crimes and crimes against humanity and against civilians from any party, and at any stage of the conflict since 2011, whether they carried them out or supported them, and the countries involved in them, especially the crimes that were committed during the aggression on Tripoli on April 4, 2019.
