After the Interior Ministry thwarted the attempt to storm the National Oil Company … the American embassy appreciates the work of the security teams.

The National Oil Corporation announced, on Monday, that some armed gangs tried to forcefully enter the headquarters of the corporation in Tripoli Tuesday, and that the Petroleum Facilities Guard force charged with protecting the building was surprised by the arrival of armed vehicles in the opposite direction of traffic, pulling weapons and trying to storm the building.

The Corporation added that immediately additional reinforcements were called from the Petroleum Facilities Guard of the Ministry of Defense, in addition to a force from the Ministry of Interior, To deal with these gangs as they were expelled without any human or material damage, and a report was referred to the Attorney General’s office, To investigate the circumstances of this attack.

Internal procedures

Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha issued orders to deal with the group attacking the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation, and to arrest all those involved in this incident.

On November 23, the Ministry of Interior condemned the mob practices and the attack on the headquarters of the Foundation, and affirmed its intention to arrest the officials and instigators of this incident, and to refer them to the Attorney General.

Rapid Movement

The Embassy of the United States of America in Libya commended the rapid movement of security forces in response to the armed incursion that targeted the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation.

The embassy stressed that the attempts of armed groups, political factions or other institutions to pressure the employees of the institution or impede the transparent management of the energy sector completely contradicts the aspirations of Libyans for a brighter future.

The embassy renewed its support for the institution that manages its mandate in a politically and technocratic manner on behalf of all Libyans.

And the head of the National Oil Corporation, Mustafa Sanallah, had demanded – in a letter addressed to the Alwaha Oil company’s board of directors to suspend its employees accused of trying to storm the Corporation’s building from work, and to temporarily suspend their salaries until legal measures are taken against them, and that they are not involved in the assault.
