Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya Stephanie Williams announced, on Sunday, the launch of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, Monday, through the video communication system, and the direct meeting will be on November 9th in the Tunisian capital.
In an official statement to the mission, Williams explained that the consultative meetings in previous months between Libyans facilitated the re-launch of the Libyan Political Forum following the signing of a permanent ceasefire agreement throughout Libya on 23 October.
Williams indicated that the method of selecting participants in the dialogue forum is based on the principles of inclusiveness and geographic, political, tribal and fair social representation, noting that the group includes representatives of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State, in addition to political actors outside the scope of the two institutions.
Williams emphasized that the first meeting of the members of the committees , through visual communication , allows to see the latest developments in the economic and military tracks and the human rights and international humanitarian law path and to listen to the recommendations made by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General with representatives of the Libyan community from municipalities, women, youth and civil society organizations.
The statement indicated that the objective of the dialogue forum is to find consensus on a unified executive authority and on the necessary arrangements for holding national elections in the shortest possible time, in order to restore the sovereignty of Libya, and to give democratic legitimacy to the Libyan institutions.
It is worth noting that the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Williams, announced, on October 11, the resumption of the comprehensive “Libyan-Libyan” talks in Tunisia early next November, based on Security Council Resolution No. 2510.
