Italy’s foreign minister said Wednesday that his country supports the resumption of direct negotiations within the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee, until a real agreement is reached for a permanent and sustainable ceasefire and the establishment of a demilitarized zone in Sirte and Al Jufra.
In a press conference held in Moscow with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, de Maio stressed the need to resume production and export of oil from Libya immediately “and without conditions”, stressing that this would support the Libyan economy and ease tensions in light of the resumption of the political process.
It is worth noting that Italian Foreign Minister Luigi de Maio confirmed early October that his country is working with Turkey to support the full resumption of oil production and export throughout Libya.
