The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, warned, on Tuesday, of a massive mobilization of mercenaries that threatens to renew armed confrontations in Libya.

During his speech at the opening of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Guterres called for collective cooperation to facilitate the resumption of negotiations in Libya, according to Anatolia.

Guterres said: “The intensity of the fighting in Libya has subsided, but the massive mobilization of mercenaries and weapons, in flagrant violation of Security Council resolutions, indicates that the risk of renewed confrontations is still high.”

He added, “Everyone should cooperate in order to facilitate an effective ceasefire agreement and the resumption of political talks between the Libyan parties.”

On September 16, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, announced the start of his consultations regarding the appointment of a new UN envoy to Libya.
