US officials confirm support for a peaceful solution in Sirte and Aljufra.

Ambassador Richard Norland and Director of the National Security Council for the Middle East and North Africa, Major General Miguel Correa, discussed with Libyan officials a demilitarized solution in Sirte and Aljufra, and the resumption of oil exports.

Norland and Correa stressed, through a statement published by the United States Embassy in Libya, the urgent need for a Libyan-led process to restore the country’s sovereignty and expel foreigners from it.

The Embassy added that the United States will continue its active engagement with Libyan leaders who reject harmful foreign intervention and who are willing to de-escalate and work together for a peaceful solution.

The United States Embassy in Libya said, in mid-June, that the shameful intervention of “Wagner” mercenaries and other foreign mercenaries in the Alsharara oil field represented a direct assault on the sovereignty of Libya, reiterating its support for the National Oil Corporation to resume oil production immediately.
