Yesterday marked the first anniversary of the Murzuq massacre, in which 40 civilians were killed and more than 50 wounded, as a result of the bombing of an Emirati drone to a rally of the city’s population, consisting of the Tabu component.

A traumatic event
Lawyer and human rights activist Abdulbasit Alhaddad described the massacre as a horrible incident that confirmed Haftar’s use of foreign mercenaries, both on land and in the air.
Alhaddad added, in a statement to Arraed, that the judicial, executive and legislative authorities turned a blind eye to this crime, and did not open any domestic investigation or demand an international investigation.
Alhaddad added, “The government should take serious steps towards these facts, classifying them as war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
Governmental deficiencies
For his part, the lawyer and human rights activist Faisal Alsharif considered the Murzuq massacre a crime against humanity, and it is a shame that the International Criminal Court did not move to hold the perpetrators accountable.
Alsharif added, in a statement to Arraed, that there are deficiencies from the GNA and its legal and judicial arms and representatives at the international organizations on this issue.
War crime
The head of the “Victims” Organization for Human Rights, Nasser Alhawari, said that the Murzuq massacre is a war crime that is added to the crimes committed by the Haftar militias, and that the international community’s silence on those crimes makes us more determined to pursue the perpetrators.
Alhawari added, in a statement to Arraed, that the effort of the GNA institutions is appreciated in the issue of war crimes, the Ministries of Justice and the Interior exposed these crimes, and demanded punishment for the perpetrators, but international justice is slow and requires a great deal of time and effort to be realized.
